ABOUT OUR LIBRARY
In 1 January 1994 came into being Downtown Public Library. Commune took over Cracow the net of public libraries acting on terrain then I, II and III council district, belonging to this time to Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna. Manager becomes M.A. Krystyna Philipp. 24 February took the place first meeting all workers of Downtown Public Library. In 1995 we begin publishing "Bulletin" - the biweekly to internal use, the including choice of the most important reviews about books, articles about authors, current letters of bestsellers. In 1 October 2000 becomes new manager M.A. Jadwiga Wiatr. We are included from 2004 to celebration of Weeks of Libraries - holiday all people connected with books, organized cyclically, every year. This is also year of beginning of intensive trainings. In aim of elevation of qualification as well as improvement of quality of service, the content - related workers take the part in Internet ride for librarians in Poland - the bibweb, finished by all in 2006. In second half 2004 several librarians from branches in District III took part in rate of expressed by signs language. In 2006 year all branches Downtown Public Library were equipped already in computer positions with free access to Internet - to assure our Readers of pane to necessary information access. We throw open multimedias also. Also in 2006, in January, profile of two our posts was altered: branch 3 - for children and youth with library branch 4 - for Readers of adult. Decision about common computerization of all Cracovian libraries under end 2006 fell down. An integrated library system SOWA 2 was bought, initiated systematically since year 2007. In 2007 we except traditional book packages begin rendering accessible audiobooks and books in english. After several months of accustoming of systems SOWA 2 readers can reservation in Main Library and ordering of book from www page on-line Downtown Public Library or on in branches positions indicated. In December 2007 in Branch of No. 4 start computer lending of books. On end 2008 with computer form of hires it is possible will use in 4. branches Downtown Public Library: Main Library, Branch of No. 3, Branch of No. 4 as well as Branch No. 6. Process of computerization lasts and the next branches will be start the computer lending. Readers on currently receive library cards entitling to use from all branches Downtown Public Library which is computerized.
